Procter & Gamble Animal Testing
Three principles form the foundation of Procter and Gamble animal testing--respect, openness, and responsibility. These principles guide all animal research across all entities within Procter and Gamble.
Respect
Animals are living beings and we conduct Procter and Gamble animal testing only as
a last resort. When we do conduct animal testing, we insist on high standards of care, enrichment, and welfare.
Our animal caregivers love animals so maintaining high welfare standards is important to them and everyone at
Procter and Gamble. Animal testing is something many of our consumers feel strongly about, so we make sure our
research focuses on reduction, refinement, and replacement programs. We are always willing to talk to activists
in an effort to understand their views. We will treat them with respect and will not make false accusations
about them.
Openness
We will open Procter and Gamble animal testing facilities to select animal care
and welfare organizations, like the International Iams Animal Care Advisory Board, that have a mutual interest
in helping us continually improve our high standards of care. We will make sure that our employees have the
facts about Procter and Gamble animal testing practices to share with their friends, families, and colleagues.
We share our science and best practices with others so they can use our findings to make progress. We
participate in open dialogue with organizations who have a genuine interest in the constructive progress of
Procter and Gamble animal testing.
Responsibility
It is our responsibility to ensure high standards for the animals in our
care. Procter and Gamble animal testing allows us to produce safe and effective products for our consumers, both
humans and pets. It is the responsibility of our employees to uphold our standards. Procter and Gamble must
respond to the needs of our society while ensuring that our policies and standards do not compromise our
employees. We must acknowledge Procter and Gamble animal testing mistakes and improve for the future. We must
celebrate the development of alternatives to animal testing and share them with others.
At Procter and Gamble, animal testing is taken very seriously and we continually look for new ways to improve our policies and practices. Our principles of respect, openness, and responsibility provide the foundation for our research.
