Iams Cruelty Free Research Methods
At Iams, cruelty to animals is not something we practice or condone. In fact, we take every precaution to treat the animals in our studies as humanely as we would treat our own pets. Many leading animal welfare organizations, including the ASPCA and the Humane Society of the United States, have worked with us to refute Iams cruelty claims and to make suggestions for improvement in our research methods and policies.
We do not kill dogs or cats, nor do we authorize the debarking of dogs here at Iams. Cruelty against animals, including killing animals, is against the Iams animal testing policy that has been in place for years. We have an industry-leading global animal studies policy that ensures the care and welfare of every dog and cat participating in feeding studies at Iams. Cruelty to animals is something Iams encourages other researchers to eliminate in their studies.
Iams is committed to the ultimate elimination of laboratory feeding studies as scientifically valid alternatives become available, and we are actively using, developing, and seeking alternatives. We share our findings with other researchers so that in other studies like those conducted by Iams, cruelty to animals can be avoided.
We take responsibility for the destiny of each dog and cat participating in Iams animal research by making sure they are adopted into loving homes or by placing them in our retirement facility when they stop working with us.
We are a company full of pet owners and pet lovers who are dedicated to helping dogs and cats live longer, healthier lives with nutritious products from Iams. Cruelty is not an option for the animals in our research facilities just as it is not an option for the pets in our own homes.
